The fourth annual Essentials of Emergency Medicine program is an advanced course developed to provide experienced practitioners with an up-to-date, evidenced-based, yet practical, overview of important and controversial topics in Emergency Medicine.

The course content has been developed predominantly by the faculty at Los Angeles County/ USC Medical Center, the oldest and one of the largest academic Emergency Medicine training programs in the United States (more than 500 graduates to date). In addition, noted guest faculty from a variety of venues will be contributing to make the 4th annual course better than ever.

Essentials of Airway Management & Procedural Sedation
November 4 & 5 (7:00am-8:00pm)

Airway, Breathing, Circulation - unless you’ve mastered the first two of these essential components of resuscitation, there is little likelihood that your patient will recover. This intensive, hands-on 20-hour course will provide all of the skills needed to manage even the most challenging airway problems. In addition, the latest drugs and techniques for procedural sedation will be included. Invest 2 days in this highly-regarded intensive, multimedia-rich course to acquire and maintain these essential skills.

EKG Session
November 6 (3:15pm - 5:45pm)

This mini-course presents a practical algorithmic approach to EKG interpretation, covering the most common and serious EKG abnormalities encountered in the ED setting. The participant will learn the language and “tricks” of the EKG experts in this highly-rated session that has been a component of the “Essentials” program since its inception. With revised materials and newly added EKGs, this session is a “must” for every ED clinician.

Arrhythmia Session
November 7 (3:15pm to 5:45pm)

This intensive course will cover the major arrhythmia groups and present a fail-safe system to make the correct diagnosis and provide appropriate therapy. Participants will attain renewed confidence when tackling some of the most difficult arrhythmia cases.

Ultrasound Course
November 8 (3:15pm to 5:45pm)

This unique program is intended for practitioners who require exposure to additional ultrasound images to hone their skills or to provide an introduction to the concepts of ultrasound. Presentations will include instruction in the appropriate locations for probe placement to achieve optimal results. The program is taught by Dr. Diku Mandavia, a nationally and internationally recognized ultrasound expert. This is not a “hands-on” course but rather a multimedia-rich presentation to aid in ultrasound interpretation. Pre-Conference E-Mails
